This is usually a glitch that occurs only occasionally, but you can try these steps if the problem persists.

What’s causing your Fire TV Stick to buffer

There are many things that can cause your Fire TV Stick to buffer, but it is difficult for you narrow them down. It’s often a Wi-Fi problem. It could be that your internet connection is too slow to support 4K streaming. Or, you have too many users streaming and downloading simultaneously on your network. It could also be because your Fire Stick doesn’t have a strong Wi-Fi signal. Hardware could be the problem. The Fire TV Stick’s specs aren’t the best. After a few years, they start to look old, and lack of memory is not going to help if you are a heavy user. This could be due to the content you are watching. Netflix, Prime Video and other streaming services are optimized for the best viewing experience. However, content on apps such as Plex and Kodi may not have been. The problem may be the server, not your Fire Stick, if you’re trying to stream large, high-bitrate video.

If you’re using your streaming stick to run unofficial or sideloaded applications, it’s possible that the malware could be the cause of the issue.

Try these quick fixes first.

It’s important to run through some of the basic fixes before you move on. They can solve most problems.

First, restart your Fire TV Stick. This can be done at Settings> My Fire TV> Restart. I pull out the power cable for a couple of seconds. This is fine as long as your device was not being updated. While you are at it, restart your router. The majority of routers have a reset button located on the bottom or back. Then, you can run a Wi-Fi speed test. The Fire Sticks come with a tool that can be used for this. Hold down both the Play and Home buttons of the remote while you go to Settings> Network. Select “Run Speed Test.”

on the following screen. Netflix recommends a minimum of 15Mbps to stream 4K and 5Mbps HD. Try disconnecting any other devices you may have to help speed up your internet. Repositioning the Fire Stick can help to ensure that no obstacles are blocking its signal. Try a variety of streaming apps and see if this is a problem with one particular service, or the entire device. You can test some streaming apps for free if you only have one subscription. Check that your Fire Stick has been fully updated. Select “Check for Updates.” under Settings> My Fire TV, then About. This can be done automatically in Settings> Appstore> Apps. You can set Automatic Updates “On.”

to disable temporarily your VPN, if it is used, in order to test if this was causing your connection to slow down. Hopefully one of these steps has helped. If you can’t watch an episode Squid Game : The Challengeuninterrupted, then these fixes will help.

Switch to Ethernet

If your WiFi is buffering you will find that switching to Ethernet is the most effective solution. Amazon offers an Ethernet adapter that allows you to switch from a wireless connection to a wired connection. The tradeoff is that you will need a longer cable to connect the Stick to the router. Enjoy the reliability and speed of a wired connection on your Amazon Fire TV.

To stay connected to Wi-Fi you may want to try forcing the Fire Stick’s connection to the 5GHz frequency. It’s not possible because many routers have their 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks combined under one SSID. If your router allows you to create two separate SSIDs, then you will be able to connect the 5GHz band.

Clear app caches.

The streaming applications you use save temporary files in order to accelerate loading. Over time, these can accumulate and cause a slowdown. To delete the caches, go to Settings> Application> Clear All Application Caches. Select “Manage Installed Applications,” then click on “Clear data,” to reset the entire app.

Reduce the load of your Fire TV Stick.

Your Stick will buffer more frequently if it is low on storage space or has trouble keeping up with 4K. By clearing up your storage space, and removing any apps that you no longer use, it will be easier to stream. Apps like YouTube and Plex allow you to stream in lower quality. It uses less bandwidth, and it can reduce the stress on the hardware.

Avoid overheating.

The Fire Sticks don’t have a lot of power, so if they are pushed too hard, the can get hot. The device may throttle performance in order to keep cool. This can lead to buffering or lag. Keep the Stick in a place with ventilation, and not behind any other devices which could increase temperature.

Factory reset is the best way to fix any problems. It will completely reset your Fire Stick, allowing you to start over as if the device were brand new. Click Settings> My FireTV> Reset Factory Defaults. When it restarts, you’ll have to install apps again and add your accounts. If you are still experiencing buffering even after trying all of these fixes, but you have an older Fire TV Stick it may be time to upgrade.
