Whatshisname & Castle Fine Art: Breaking New Ground in Space
Prepare to witness one of the most extraordinary and unique art exhibitions ever—set not on Earth, but in outer space.
Renowned artist Whatshisname has teamed up with Castle Fine Art and the space agency Sent into Space to launch a groundbreaking collection of his artwork into the cosmos. This innovative project promises an inspiring experience for those on Earth, offering a boundary-pushing perspective on modern art by literally sending it into orbit.
This visionary venture, aptly named Art Above Earth, redefines artistic expression, inviting viewers to explore the depths of creativity illuminated by Whatshisname’s unique work. Reflecting on his inaugural extra-terrestrial exhibition, Whatshisname remarked, “This is my very first solo exhibition and ironically no one, myself included, would be able to attend as it’s happening above the surface of the Earth.”
The tranquil beauty of space provides a perfect backdrop for this artistic exploration. Whatshisname, known for his innovative approach to modern pop art, has created the first-ever art gallery in space. Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Group Managing Director at Castle Fine Art, described the project as a thrilling collaboration:
“At Castle Fine Art, it is our mission to create an environment and platform that allows artists like Whatshisname to push the boundaries of art. In all the time we have collaborated with him, he never fails to amaze us, but to be a part of his latest exhibition in space is thrilling, to say the least.”
The exhibition showcases six extraordinary pieces, including Room One, featuring a golden breakdancing astronaut sculpture equipped with a 360-degree camera to provide an immersive view of its moves. As the year progresses, additional works will join the showcase, blending art and space technology in new and exciting ways.
In Room Two, visitors explore highlights from Whatshisname’s iconic POPek collection, featuring intricate balloon dog sculptures, alongside pieces from his new Gone series. These works evoke nostalgia, showcasing childhood favorites like E.T., Yoda, and R2-D2 through imaginative reinterpretations that invite viewers to reflect on their own memories.
Room Three concludes the exhibition with a space-capable digital display offering a behind-the-scenes look at Whatshisname’s creative process and inspirations. This glimpse into his artistry highlights how he continually challenges perceptions and embraces new technologies to elevate artistic expression.
Whatshisname explained his vision for the exhibit: “It is the role of an artist to push the boundaries of creativity and combine new technology with artistic expression. I can only imagine what the space art projects of the future will look like… I hope to one day launch my work to the moon. Nothing is impossible.”
This collaboration between Whatshisname, Castle Fine Art, and Sent into Space opens up a new frontier for art, demonstrating how innovation and creativity can break barriers. Nothing, indeed, is impossible.
