Researchers are on a quest to discover how the body reacts to extreme temperature
The climate change exposes people who are vulnerable to extreme temperatures. Around 47,000 deaths due to heat are expected in Europe by 2023. Climate change, according to researchers, could cause an additional 2.3 millions heat-related deaths in Europe this century. This has increased the importance of solving the mystery about what happens in extreme temperatures.
We know very little about how humans regulate their temperature. The science behind keeping cool or warm is also rife with blindspots. Scientists around the globe are redefining rules for when temperatures can go from unbearable to fatal. These findings have changed the way we think about hot and cold limits, as well as how to live in this new world. You can read the complete story.

Whales are in danger. Wind turbines are not to blame.
The deaths of whales have been a hot topic in politics. Presently, there are three “active mortality events” for whales on the Atlantic. This means that clusters of deaths have occurred which experts find unusual. Republican legislators, conservative think-tanks, and President Donald Trump, a wind-power opponent for many years, are all making dubious accusations that offshore wind farms were responsible.
Wind turbines are not to blame for the deaths of whales. Whales were washing up on the beaches long before these giant machines had been anchored in the ocean bottom. It’s always been this way. The scientific consensus is that there’s no proof to suggest wind farms have caused the recent increase in whale deaths. Click here to read the complete story.

The state of AI: energy is king and the US has fallen behind
Energy is the greatest barrier to AI progress. This should worry Americans, as there are massive data centres waiting to be brought online. The country doesn’t seem to have the infrastructure or power source needed to support them all.
This wasn’t the case in all cases. Data centers could offset the increased demand for about 10 years before 2020 by improving efficiency. The US electricity demand has been increasing, and efficiency improvements are not keeping up.
The US must learn from other countries about energy abundance if it wants AI to be able to fulfill big promises, without driving up electricity prices for us. Look at China. Click here to read the complete story.

Graydon Hoare experienced a similar experience. Hoare, a 29 year old computer programmer who worked for Mozilla in 2006 was the victim of a software crash. In 2006, after a software failure in his building broke an elevator, Hoare began to design a new language for computers. He hoped that it would allow him to create small and fast codes without any memory bugs.
