Lone Star talent leads the way in an immersive historical film experience that sheds new light on Texas origins.

June 06, 2025 -[Press Release Wire]- Texas Legacy in Lights is the first immersive museum and film experience to be launched in Texas. All-Texas Cast and Crew This project will usher in a brand new age of storytelling that is based on heritage. The large-scale production is set to start on June 15, 2025 Grand opening October 2, The film is a landmark in the history of historical cinema. It’s rooted in Texas, driven by passion and created by its people.

Texas Legacy in Lights, developed by a team of creatives dedicated to honoring Texas’s revolutionary legacy and dramatizing key events that led to the Texas Revolution including the famous “Come and Take It” confrontation in Gonzales, is a dramatic presentation of the Texas Revolution. The goal is to not only educate, but also emotionally connect the audience to humanity, sacrifice, and courage that defined early Texas.

All-Texas cast brings heritage to life

Casting for this film brings together an accomplished and diverse group of actors, all with Texas roots and deep respect for story.

Samantha Plumb Eveline DeWitt

Plumb, an Austin-based stage and film veteran, leads the cast in the role of Eveline DeWitt. She is a resolute frontier woman who faces the turmoil of a country on the verge of war. She has starred in acclaimed roles on stage in The Winter’s Tale and Frankenstein.

Plumb says, “It was a powerful and personal experience to portray Eveline DeWitt.” As a native Texan who has deep roots in the history of this state, I consider it an honor to tell this important story.

William Grant Bain and John E. Gaston

Bain has worked on stage and screen. He brings his personal experience to the project. John William SmithThe man from Alamo who called for reinforcements.

Bain adds, “This is a story that runs in my veins.” The opportunity to play a role whose actions shaped history and do it in the place where they happened is an honor as well as a responsibility.

Kelby McCan – John Henry Moore

McCan is a native Houstonian and veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His roots are deep. McCan is a descendant from a family that fought on the James Long Expedition. He brings grit, reverence and remembrance to his role as John Henry Moore.

He says, “Filming Gonzales isn’t a job, it’s homecoming. The spark of the revolution ignited the flame of freedom.”

Chris Marks-Sam Houston

Marks’ resume includes roles in Pain Hustlers, Burn Notice and Tycoon on Amazon Prime. Marks has an extensive background on stage and screen. He is also passionate about elevating historical tales through his nuanced performances. He lives in San Antonio.

We’re not simply remembering history, we’re revitalizing it. “I really believe this will change the way museums and educational spaces in future tell stories,” says he.

Peggy Schott Sarah DeWitt

Schott is a seasoned actress who has appeared in Fear the Walking Dead, Vindication and many indie movies. She embodies the strong woman that Sarah DeWitt was – a matriarche who was steadfast during times of political turmoil and loss.

“These women were strong, spiritual, resilient. They were quiet, but they never stopped. Schott says, “That’s true heroism.”

Zachary Colmenero- William Philip King

Colmenero, a film director and the founder of Stars Above Foundation (which promotes childhood cancer awareness), is known for his powerful, respected and ambitious portrayals.

William King’s bravery, humanity, and inspiration in his young life are the same stories that I tell. “It’s an honour to be in his shoes.”

Johnny Chops – Thomas Jackson

Chops is best known for his work as a guitarist with Randy Rogers Band. He also directed and starred in Killin’ Jim Kelly on Amazon Prime. Chops, a Texas State University graduate, brings creative energy and frontier spirit to Jackson’s role.

It’s both humbling, and grounded. “Telling this story where it occurred adds a weight that you cannot replicate in a recording studio”, he says.

Ajay Ramos – Captain Juan Seguin

Ramos, a multi-talented model, actor and former radio host, is a crucial piece in the history of early Texas. Ramos previously hosted the biggest Latinx radio show in Texas. He also works with Down Syndrome awareness charities.

Ramos says that Seguin did not fight for independence alone, but also for inclusion. This passion is what I bring to everything I do as a proud Texan. “Texas must be independent and free or else we will perish in glory.

Danny Debs – Lt. Francisco de Castaneda

Debs, who was born in Colombia but raised in Puerto Rico and settled in Texas before moving to the United States, is an actor and director with more than 25 TV appearances. He has also played in several independent films. Castaneda’s portrayal by Debs brings to life the richness of a bicultural and bilingual culture of one of Texas’s most important leaders.

Debs says, “It’s an honor to play such a complex character.” He’s no villain, but a man torn between duty and conscience. This story is sure to touch people’s hearts, no matter what their culture or country.

Production Schedule & Vision

Texas Legacy in Lights is a film that combines traditional filmmaking, museum-quality production, interactive exhibits and immersive storytelling in locations exactly where history happened. This project will boost tourism to Gonzales, and set a benchmark in historical education using media.

John Franklin Rinehart, director of the film says: “We are not only making a movie–we are creating an experience.” This is Texas’ story, told on Texas soil by Texans for the rest of the world.

The Living Tribute: More than a Film

This project was supported by historians, artists, educators and leaders from the community who believed in the power that storytelling has to inspire future generations.
