What global trends in hospitality are most influential on the MENA Region?
The MENA region, following global trends, is increasingly attracting tourists seeking luxury, culture and sustainability. They also seek memorable moments. The MENA hospitality industry’s influence is influenced worldwide by a range of trends, including technological advancements and economic changes. Among the key hospitality trends influencing the MENA area are:
The desire of travelers to connect authentically to their destination and culture is growing. Demand for unique, immersive, and culturally-driven luxury travel experiences that are based on genuine cultural experiences, as well as authenticity, has been increasing. The MENA Region is perfectly positioned to take advantage of this trend, with its high-end accommodations, upscale retail offerings, unique natural surroundings and rich cultural heritage.
Sustainability is a growing priority in the tourism industry. Hoteliers are adopting waste-reduction initiatives, green building practices and energy-saving technologies. Eco-friendly guest experiences also enjoy a growing popularity among environmentally conscious tourists.
As the wellness trend continues to grow, hotels continue to develop their health spas. Diets that are based on nutrition and eating healthy options have become more common. Hotels are also adding wellness technology to their rooms in line with the trend.
The regional tourism industry has expanded to cater for a larger range of visitors. Luxury is an important segment but mid-market accommodation and budget accommodations are becoming increasingly popular in order to appeal to different demographics.
Technology integration and digital transformation are becoming more common. Innovations like AI powered concierge services, contactless check ins, and smartphone apps to control the accommodations, as well as smooth payment methods, have become the new norm. These technologies are being implemented by hotels in the MENA area. AI-powered chatbots are becoming increasingly popular in Dubai’s hotels, for example.
We have seen a rise in bleisure, combining business and leisure travel. With remote working on the increase and holidaying as a part of business travel, Campbell Gray Hotels has noticed this trend. MENA’s business centres and leisure attractions are attracting bleisure travelers.
What are the key drivers for hospitality excellence in today’s world?
The key to hospitality is the highly personalized service that, when provided with excellence, results in guest satisfaction. The customer experience is ultimately the driving force in the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry is centered around providing guests with memorable experiences and exceptional service.
In the hospitality industry, hyper-personalization extends beyond simple preferences like room type or special demands. Data, machine-learning, artificial intelligence, and customer insight are used to create highly customized experiences for each point of contact. Businesses can create memorable experiences by anticipating the needs of guests. A hyper-personalized strategy might include offering guests facilities that are based on their past choices and interests.
Hyper-personalization helps to enhance satisfaction. When guests are valued, they form a stronger emotional connection which can lead to positive reviews online and organic marketing. AI and automation reduce the burden of repetitive tasks, allowing employees to focus on creating meaningful and personalized human connections.
What markets is Campbell Gray Hotels currently watching?
We are interested in regions experiencing rapid growth, and also hubs of luxury investment and travel. This includes cities such as Dubai, Amman, and Doha, all located in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is a top destination for luxury brands due to its expanding and innovative tourism infrastructure. Riyadh, Jeddah and other cities are targeted for luxury properties.
Africa, with its increasing demand for high-end, exclusive hospitality, is on the radar of Campbell Gray Hotels. We are also interested in Europe because that is where the trend began and there has been a constant demand for luxury accommodation.
What is the Campbell Gray Hotels’ personal touch on each project?
We focus all of our efforts on developing unique properties through storytelling, personalized experiences, technology and sustainability. Our properties translate stories based on local elements or culture. The Campbell Gray Hotels are unique because of their unique vocabulary, service and luxury translation.
Our inspiration comes from places that are not mainstream, but are still recognizable as elements in the culture we are inspired by. In one mixed-use, real estate development on Egypt’s north coast, for example, we created a Palm Beach luxury lifestyle in homage to the theme. The theme was ‘La Dolce Vita,’ with localization infused through the use of high-end Cairo art. All was done in a refined, personalized way.
What is the latest on Campbell Gray Hotels regional expansion plans for us?
Campbell Gray Hotels has been strengthening its Middle East expansion through new projects and strategic partnerships. People & Places has selected the company to be in charge of several projects, such as The Med on Egypt’s North Coast. The development includes boutique hotels, villas and restaurants as well as spa facilities, beach clubs, and branded residences. Hills of One, a large mixed-use project in Cairo with People & Places, is another major development. The upscale living will take place in New Zayed, opposite the Sphinx Airport.
Campbell Gray Hotels and Valor Hospitality Partners have partnered to manage and develop a variety of luxury hospitality products, such as serviced apartments and Beach Clubs.
The Gray Kings Polo in Egypt is also on the way. We are also about to sign additional hotel and residence brands in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and East Africa.
Campbell Gray Hotels has also expanded its portfolio of food and beverages (F&B), including the opening of outlets in our hotels, residences, and resorts. We are also opening other F&B concept outlets, such as our Cafe Gray, in Dubai Hills. This restaurant was awarded the ‘Best British Restaurant 2024-Good Food Middle East’.
