  • Nearly 100% of the Gen Zers surveyed admitted to using AI tools at work. This is Why Gen Zers Say AI Is A ‘Catalyst for their Careers’.

The vast majority of Gen Zers still use AI for office work, despite their belief that AI could replace them in the coming decade. And they are open about this.

Google released a new study on Monday that assessed the AI practices of 1,005 U.S. knowledge workers between 22 and 39 years old. Google called the group “young leaders” Because they are currently in a leadership position or want to be one.

In the survey, 93% Gen Z respondents aged 22-27 years use two or more AI applications like ChatGPT and Google Gemini AI every week. Comparatively, 79% of the millennials aged 28-39 indicate they are doing the same.

AI is being used by these AI users to write email, take notes in meetings, and even overcome language barriers.

ChatGPT is not a secret for these people either. More than half share their AI-driven insights and experiences. Even three out of four people have recommended AI software to colleagues who have enjoyed positive results.

“Rising leaders are not only advocating for AI—they’re deploying this technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for strategic work,” Yulie Kwon, VP Product at Google Workspace said in a recent press release.

The writing capabilities of AI appeals to Gen Z workers and millennials who use the technology in the office. The survey found that 70% of respondents had used AI for drafting an email reply, and 88% claimed that AI could help find the correct tone in writing.

AI has a lot of promise and can also bring out the leadership potential. Four out of five respondents say they want to improve their management skills and lead better teams using AI. The half of respondents say AI has the potential to automate tedious tasks, so they can concentrate on more strategic work.

The next generation of leaders “are not simply using AI as a tool for efficiency, but as a catalyst to help grow their careers,” Kim said.

AI has the ability to create new jobs, as well as help careers grow. A survey conducted by the tech education company General Assembly earlier in the month showed that 62% Gen Z thought AI would eliminate their jobs over the next decade. Meanwhile, a study by Duke University revealed that 61% large U.S. companies plan to automate previously performed tasks by humans using AI within the coming year.
