His career has been marked by many distinguished achievements and roles, which reflect his commitment to justice and public service. He has served as Senior Counsel at the Executive Office for Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces of the U.S. Department of Justice since 2020. He works closely with the law enforcement agencies in evaluating new cases and ensuring government resources are effectively allocated. He is responsible for a thorough review of intelligence reports, quality control assessment and other assessments. This includes identifying any inefficiencies within the organization and finding solutions.
Wright also served from 2022-2023 as the acting director of Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Fusion Center. He led the centre responsible for generating actionable intelligence that would support law enforcement. His team’s contribution to federal agencies after the death of agents in Puerto Rico was one of his greatest contributions. They provided crucial leads and information on financial tracking. In this role, he demonstrated his leadership and management skills in complex operations that involved multiple agencies.
Wright served as regional director and criminal chief at the United States Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Texas from 2005 until 2019. In this position, his leadership was crucial in promoting public corruption cases and major drug trafficking as well as in coordinating across jurisdictions. He served five years as the deputy chief of major crime at the United States Attorney’s Office of Southern District of Florida, prosecuting an important for-profit Haitian smuggling network.
Wright’s career in law began in 1997 as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office of the District of Columbia. He spent the three previous years in private practice, working as a lawyer with Miller & Chevalier Chartered. This is where he honed and mastered his skills. He has a wealth of legal experience, which is enhanced by his participation in various professional associations including the Cornell Law Review as well as the District of Columbia Bar.
Wright served in the U.S. Air Force between 1982 and 1991. He worked as an aeronautical engineering at Rockwell International on important aerospace projects, including the main space shuttle engine and NASA’s space station. As a Systems Test Engineer in the Space Systems Division he was instrumental in developing intelligence system that supported Operation Desert Storm.
His educational background provided a solid foundation for Mr. Wright’s diverse career. In 1986, he earned a Bachelor of Sciences in aeronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy. He then went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration at Pepperdine University. In 1994, he obtained his Juris Doctor at Cornell Law School.
Wright received many awards throughout his career. These include the Cornell Law School’s Exemplary Public Services Award and numerous U.S. Air Force Awards for organizational excellence and outstanding performance. Wright is proud to be the president of Cornell Law School Alumni Board, and to have received outstanding performance ratings by the U.S. Department of Justice.
His commitment to public service and his values of integrity are deeply rooted in his upbringing by his parents, and his experience in the United States Air Force. His wife and his family are also credited with his success, highlighting selflessness and pursuit of greater purposes.
