Since 2015, Dr. Mahdavi is a clinical health scientist at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. He has spent over 40 years in the field of oncology and hematology. In 2017, Dr. Mahdavi was appointed as chairman elect for the Department of Hematology-Oncology at Hoag Hospital. This is a reflection of his presence and expertise in this field. Additionally, he has advocated for patients as a physician and hematologist-oncologist at the same institution since 1980, where he was the immediate past chief of staff from 2011 to 2013 and the chief of medical staff between 2009 and 2011. Dr. Mahdavi previously served as the chairman of the hematology/oncology department from 2005-2007.
From 1969 to 1972 Dr. Mahdavi worked as a doctor in the Iranian Navy, a position that he held from 1969 until 1972. This experience laid a solid foundation for him in his medical career. In 1969, Dr. Mahdavi earned an MD at the University of Tehran School of Medicine. He was also recognized in 1979 as a Fellow in Hematology-Oncology by Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Mahdavi also completed his residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago and was board certified in Internal Medicine in Hematology and Medical Oncology.
The professional affiliations of Dr. Mahdavi are varied. Dr. Mahdavi is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and he holds memberships with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Medical Oncology Association of Southern California. The associations Dr. Mahdavi belongs to reflect his commitment to staying current with evolving trends, engaging in industry development and contributing to the medical community.
Throughout Dr. Mahdavi’s career, he has received recognition for his contribution to the medical field and to his local community. In 2002, he was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the National Conference for Community and Justice. He actively looks for service opportunities and served on the Physicians Governance Committee of Hoag Cancer Institute between 2012-2015.
Mahdavi credits his professional and personal success to the challenges he has faced.
