Alex C. Capo, a professional in adolescent mental health and the family and director of The Charlton School is an accomplished adolescent mental health and family specialist.

Capo is a 25-year veteran of adolescent health care, with focuses on organizational and leadership structure, as well as strategic planning. Since 2017, Mr. Capo has been the executive director at The Charlton School, where he is responsible for all aspects of a 24 hour therapeutic learning community. He is responsible for managing the budget, overseeing educational and clinical aspects and managing all operational activities. M. Capo has led the school to significant improvements, such as securing $14 million in funding to construct four new dormitories for students, which is the first large construction project since 1955. The project includes an after-school makerspace for activities, and a space to develop job skills.
From 2008 until 2017, Mr. Capo was the owner of Counseling Associates in Saratoga Springs, where he had a private business. Between 2000 and 2003, he worked as Brightside for Families and Children’s therapist. He began his career as an adventure therapy at Blackwater Outdoor Experiences between 1999 and 2001, after gaining success as an Assistant Clinician at Hampden County Correctional Facility in 1997. Through these positions, Capo developed his knowledge of adolescent psychology and a thorough understanding of the therapeutic process.
The academic foundation of Mr. Capo laid the groundwork for his career success. In 1996, he earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on pediatric rehabilitation from Springfield College and a Masters in psychiatric rehabiliation and mental health counselling in 1999. In 2006, Mr. Capo obtained a license as a mental health counselor from the New York State Education Department.
Capo was influenced by a college professor who stressed holistic medicine. His approach focuses on the individual and seeing them as a whole. His success is attributed to his ability to surround himself with people who are talented and share his vision of growth and improvement. Capo’s collaboration-focused approach has created an atmosphere that encourages innovation and excellence in the Charlton School.
Capo’s focus is on the implementation of a new strategy for The Charlton School. He hopes to increase residential capacity, and improve treatment services with the new dormitories. This will create an atmosphere that resembles college life while offering comprehensive care.
