Stop third-party apps from accessing your Google Account data
You are often asked to give them the Google Account details. These apps can access and use your data. Once you stop using the apps, it’s a good idea to remove their account access. They’ll access your data even after you stop using the app (years in my case). Launch the Google My Account website and log in with your Google account to review these apps. Click “Data & Privacy.” in the left-sidebar of the website. Scroll down the right-pane to find the Apps and Service section. Click “Third-Party Apps and Services.”
Here. On the next page, you will see all the services and apps that are connected to your Google Account. Use the options Sign in with Google, Linked Account and Access To at the top to filter the list. Select the app or service that you wish to delete from your account. Google will tell you on the next page
what information the app has in your Google account. Click “Delete All Connections You Have With [App or Service Name].”
at the bottom to revoke the app’s account access. In the pop-up that appears, select “Confirm.”
If you want to grant an app access in the future to Google Account data, then go through the authentication process within that app.
Removing unwanted apps’ access to Google Drive is also possible
Some apps do not connect with your Google account, but instead connect directly to Google Drive. Some apps might not appear on Google My Account. You’ll need to check these apps in Drive, and remove their permissions if necessary. Open the Google Drive website and log in. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the website and select “Settings.” . On the Settings page from the left-sidebar, choose “Manage Apps.” . On the right side pane, locate the app that you wish to delete. Click “Options” next to the app and select “Disconnect From Drive.”
in the prompt that opens. Select “Disconnect” in the prompt to remove its connection with your Google Drive.
Sign out of Your GoogleAccount on Unused Devices (#19659014) If you are signed into your Google account using devices you no longer use, you should logout of that account. It will prevent anyone else from accessing your account using these devices. Sign-out can be done remotely, without having to access the device. Launch the Google My Account website and log in. Select “Security.” In the left pane of the Your Devices area, click “Manage All Devices.”
. Review your list of Google-connected devices. Select the device that you wish to log out from. Choose “Sign Out.”
on the next page. In the pop-up prompt, choose “Sign Out.”
.
Tip: Turn on 2-Step verification and review apps that access your account regularly
Implement the two following security measures to ensure that unauthorized users and applications cannot gain access to data in your Google Account. Turn on two-step verification in your Google account. It adds an extra layer of security when you log in to your account. Add layers such as a passkey or an OTP generated by your phone. You should also review your list of applications that can access your account. You may stop using an application, but not remove it from your list. Use the methods above to remove these apps from your Google Account. This is how I removed apps from my Google account that I no longer use.
