In 2017, the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants recognized Dr. Kudo for his educational contribution by awarding him the Distinguished Accounting Educator Award.
Franklin Kudo was selected to be included in Marquis Who’s Who. In all Marquis Who’s Who volumes, the individuals featured are chosen based on their current value. Selection is based on factors such as visibility, prominence, notable accomplishments and position in the field.
Dr. Kudo is a respected academic. He has been a professor of Accounting and Chair of the Business and Cyber Division at University of Hawaii-West Oahu since 2006, and has played a major role in the development of academics. He is responsible for teaching students, managing academic programs, and ensuring faculty success. In addition, Dr. Kudo has been recognized as the dual chair, CEO, and managing director at New City Nissan and Rosebridge LLC, since 1998. This highlights his unique position, as the only automotive dealership in the U.S. that is also a professor at an accredited institution. New City Nissan is the recipient of numerous Nissan USA awards for excellence, including Circle of Excellence and Global Awards.
From 1974 until 1978, Dr. Kudo began his career as a senior account at KPMG, Peat, Marwick CPAs in Honolulu (formerly Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co. CPAs). After serving as Aloha Motors Inc.’s senior vice-president and controller from 1983 to 1985, he briefly served as president of Virtual Management Services Inc. He held various leadership positions at Mazda Hawaii Inc., the Tony Management Group and Shelly Motors Inc. from 1992 to 1997.
As a preparation for the future, Dr. Kudo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder, in 1972. He then received a Masters of Business Administration (Accounting) from Foster School of Business, University of Washington, in 1974. In 2006, Mr. Kudo, inspired by the pursuit of higher learning of his twin, earned a Doctor of Business Administration at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management.
He is also actively involved with several organizations related to the accounting industry, including The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Kudo holds numerous certifications from AICPA, like accreditations in financial forensics and business valuation. He also serves as the president of Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants and is a board member. He has also served as a board member for the Hawaii Automobile Dealers Association, and Hawaii Executive Council. In addition to his professional commitments Dr. Kudo has a strong involvement in civic affairs. Dr. Kudo has been vice president of the Hawaii Children’s Museum & Discovery Center, chaired the board in 1989 and held positions on the boards for Hawaii Services on Deafness and Kuakini Medical Center, as well as PASHA Hawaii Shipping and Hawaii Services on Deafness.
In 2018, Dr. Kudo was appointed as a visiting scholar at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Ookayama. His academic accomplishments were further enhanced by this appointment. His publications on topics such as organizational cynicism, hope and the development of leadership among teenagers through appropriate parenting typologies have also contributed significantly to academic literature.
The Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants recognized Dr. Kudo’s contributions to education in 2017 with the Distinguished Accounting Educator Award. His work in leadership development earned him the University of Hawaii Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Kenneth E. Clark Research Award by the Center for Creative Leadership in North Carolina. His father instilled values and his competitive brother shared a spirit of competition that he attributes to his success. He has excelled because of these influences.
