Since 2024, Dr. Edlin, a pharmacist with a long and distinguished career, has been the Vice President of Research and Development at Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, Columbus, Ohio. He oversees the research and development of generic products for North America excluding injectable steriles. His leadership style is defined by his experience in the generics sector. He manages an organization of 100 scientists, and drives innovation throughout the company.
Between 2018 and 2024, Dr. Edlin worked in several important positions at Teva Pharmaceutical Industry Ltd. He was promoted from director to senior research director and director research before being appointed site head of global respiratory research in Waterford County Waterford. Dr. Edlin developed oral respiratory products with an emphasis on chronic obstructive lung disease and asthma.
Between 2014 and 2018, Dr. Edlin served as the executive director at the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre, Limerick. He led an organization partially funded by the government that was a member-based research group. This allowed companies to work together on research projects at local universities. Prior to this, Edlin was the director of enterprise partnerships at The University of Leicester (Leicester, United Kingdom) from 2012 until now. Dr. Edlin was previously the head of enterprise research partnerships at The University of Leicester in Leicester, United Kingdom. He held this position from 2012 to 2012.
Early in his career, Dr. Edlin made significant contributions. He worked as a senior chemist for Sanofi in London (formerly Sanofi-Aventis), from 1998 until 2000. From then on, he was a team lead at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. in Welwyn Garden City in the U.K. From 2002 to 2006, he was a group leader and principal scientist at GSK plc, Stevenage (U.K.). Dr. Edlin has worked in a variety of therapeutic fields, including HIV, arthritis and asthma.
In 2008, Dr. Edlin was hired by iThemba Pharmaceuticals, a South African company, after he had become group leader in London. He was the director of Chemistry from 2008 until 2009. Then he became head of chemistry, site director and chief scientist until 2012. During Dr. Edlin’s tenure at iThemba he played a key role in the development of the organization, from the beginning, by training scientists in drug discovery and growing the company to 40 employees. Under his leadership, iThemba Pharmaceuticals was the only African organization to be involved in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry. Dr. Edlin considers his work in South Africa to be his greatest achievement.
In 1995, Dr. Edlin earned a Bachelor of Sciences in Chemistry at Durham University. He then completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry on the campus in 1998. He obtained his Master of Business Administration at the University of Limerick, in 2017, to gain more expertise in the business management of the pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Edlin has been a member of many professional associations since 2011, which reflects his dedication to the advancement of pharmaceutical science. Since 2011, he has served as a member of the board of directors of the International Pharmaceutical Aerosol Consortium for Regulation & Science. He also served as board director of Britest Ltd. between 2016 and 2018. The dedication of Dr. Edlin extends far beyond his professional activities to include civic engagement and charity. He participated in Pelotonia Columbus’ charity bicycle ride and is a volunteer with Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
Dr. Edlin’s career has been marked by significant achievements, such as obtaining 20 patents for pharmaceutical innovations. His scholarly contribution is recognized by his two dozen published articles in Nature Biotechnology Research, as well as other peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Edlin was awarded the African Network for Drug Discovery and Diagnostic Innovation Centre of Excellence Award by the World Health Organization and African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation for his contribution to education and science in 2011. Dr. Edlin is eager to achieve future achievements.
